NRFF to begin camping for Africa Cup
May 22, 2014
The Nigerian Rugby Football Federation is set to begin a closed camping ahead of the Africa 1C Cup in Gaborone, Botswana.
Vice president and Technical Director of the federation, Olatunji Fasimoye, said that the camping will begin on the May 28.
The federation had earlier this month
done trials in Lagos for the southern players and Kaduna for the players
in the northern zone of the country.
Fasimoye said, “The trials were done in
the two zones of the country and they had more than 250 players in
attendance. The players from the south were from the south-west league
matches in Lagos while the players from the north were selected from a
mini competition called president vs the rest 15’S in Kaduna.”
He added that the competition, which will
be held from June 13-22, will feature countries like Botswana, Morocco,
Zambia, Mauritius and Swaziland.
“The Black Stallions of Nigeria are
presently in Cup 1C with the other countries at the tournament. Winning
this competition will promote Nigeria to a higher division, Cup 1B,
which is the penultimate division before we join the likes of Kenya,
Namibia and South Africa in the Cup 1A.
“That is why this competition is important to us in the federation,” Fasimoye said.
