Ekiti Assembly wants Police Commissioner charged for murder

Ekiti
State House of Assembly on Monday adopted a resolution calling for the
charge of the Police Commissioner, Mr. Felix Uyanna, for murder.
The legislators also called for
immediate redeployment of the State Mopol Commander, Mr. Gabriel
Selenkere, urged the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, to
take over police supervision.
The House resolutions followed a motion
moved under Matter of Urgent Public Importance by Majority Leader, Mr.
Churchill Adedipe.
A member of the All Progressives
Congress, Taiwo Akinola, on Sunday died from a gun shot allegedly fired
by the police led by Selenkere to disperse the party’s supporters during
a peaceful rally in Ado-Ekiti.
The police also fired tear gas canisters on the convoy of Governor Kayode Fayemi, who raced to the scene of attack.
The Assembly demanded that all persons involved in the Sunday attack to be prosecuted.

Adedipe described the attack on the governor and the APC members, by the police as barbaric, unconstitutional and condemnable.
“We expect the police to protect the
state governor and other citizens, but a situation whereby it is the
police that attacks a State governor in broad day light is sad,” he
said.
