Super
Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike insists he will not be chasing personal
glory at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil. The tournament kicks off on
Thursday.
Nigeria are drawn in Group F along with Argentina, Bosnia and Iran. The Eagles open their campaign on June 16 against Iran.
Fenerbahce star Emenike, who was top
scorer at last year’s Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa and also
scored crucial goals to help Nigeria qualified for a fifth World Cup,
said he would fight for the success of the team in Brazil.
“Everybody here in the team is ready to fight with right attitude for the country,” Emenike was quoted by AfricanFootball.com as saying on Friday.
“The team is not all about me, it is
about all the players because I can’t lift the team alone, it must be a
collective effort. This is not a matter of individuals.
“I am therefore not thinking of what I
will achieve as an individual in Brazil, but what the Super Eagles will
achieve. We are going to Brazil to represent our fatherland and help our
career beyond where it is now.”
The Turkey-based added, “For me, every
game will be taken as the final, which is a must-win. We need a positive
mindset to approach our opponents and with that, we can rule the world.
“We just need to be proactive and handle the pressure. We will conquer if we did all those things.”
