Keshi deserves respect – Danagogo
Keshi deserves respect – Danagogo
July 3, 2014
Minister of Sports Dr. Tammy Danagogo
The
National Sports Commission Chairman, Tammy Danagogo, has said Super
Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, deserves respect from the Nigeria Football
Federation.
Danagogo also denied
reports that Keshi resigned after Nigeria were eliminated from the 2014
World Cup in Brazil on Monday by France in Brasilia.
Reports
had quoted Keshi as saying he had resigned after the African champions
were sent packing from the World Cup but the sports minister insisted
that the coach, who captained the Eagles at their first World Cup outing
in the United States 20 years ago, had yet to resign.
The
minister said Keshi should be treated with respect by the football
administrators, adding that the officials should have discussed the
issue of the coach’s contract with him before making it a media issue.
In
a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Patrick Omorodion, the
minister said, “It is not true that Keshi has resigned. He told me that
he never said so, that his contract only expired. I expect the NFF to
the needful.”
Meanwhile, Keshi has
refuted the story, stressing that he only told the players that the
match against France might be his last with them, as his contract had
expired with the team’s elimination from the World Cup.
